A Hike to Remember

In early February 2026, a bereaved father and his three friends will climb Mount Kilimanjaro in loving memory of his daughter, Elemie Rose Wainwright.

At just 11-years-young, Elemie tragically lost her life following a road traffic incident in her hometown of Mosborough, Sheffield, earlier this year.

In honour of her “adventurous” spirit, her devoted father, Anthony, will tackle the heights and extreme weather conditions of Mount Kilimanjaro, in Africa, in the new year.

Accompanying him will be three of his work friends, Jamie King, Simon Gorman, and Simon Anderson.

The idea of the hike originated from Jamie King, who, having lost his mum 10 years ago, wanted to dedicate the climb to both his mum and to Elemie.

He then proposed the idea to Anthony, who, in Jamie’s words, jumped at the chance to “get as close to the sky as he can get to Elemie”.

The hike is therefore very much about memory and, like Elemie did, “living life to the fullest”.

Amanda King, Jamie’s partner, said: “For the guys, this is a big challenge.

“It’s about carrying Elemie’s memory to new heights and to new places, and it’s about transporting the message of Be More Elemie”.

This message of ‘Be More Elemie’ was first spread by Elemie’s mother, Jodie, and has extended far and wide, inspiring Elemie’s school to create an award using this name for children who, like Elemie, share kindness and encourage inclusivity.

Simon Gorman, one of Anthony’s closest childhood friends, is also planning to join Anthony, Jamie and Simon Anderson on their mission to keep Elemie’s memory alive.

Describing his fond memories of Elemie, he said: “Elemie always made people feel welcomed, happy, loved.

“She was a walking sunshine… a shining star.”

“She was full of life and a joy to be around, with so much love for everyone”.

He added: “even just talking about Elemie makes everyone smile, because of the memories they have of her”.

Anthony and his friends will land in Tanzania on February 4, 2026 and will reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro on February 10, before beginning their departure on February 12.

Before endeavouring their huge climb, family and friends are arranging a community hike to take place in Mosborough on Sunday January 18.

They encourage everyone to come along to show their support and to hold the memory of Elemie Rose Wainwright close in their hearts.
