The Owls could potentially get out of the Championship relegation zone by the end of this week if results go their way, but in order to do so then they’ll have to get a result of some sort against the Cherrries at the Vitality Stadium later today.
Neil Thompson, who has overseen a real upturn in fortunes for Wednesday since coming in as interim manager, says that they’re expecting a tough game down south as their opponents look to bounce back from their 3-1 defeat last week.

Hide AdHe told the media, “It’ll be a tough game, they had a bad result against Reading, but they’ll be wanting to bounce back… They’ve got a lot of top players in their team, but we’ll go down there and we’ve got a job to do.”
There was good news recently with the return of Massimo Luongo and Josh Windass, but this game may well come too soon for both Joost van Aken and Chey Dunkley.
With regards to the Dutchman, ‘Thommo’ says that he did make a step towards a comeback in the U23s’ defeat to Birmingham City last week, but then picked up a knock to his ankle.
He told the media, “He turned his ankle a wee bit, which is a shame. We’re assessing that, hopefully it’s not too bad, and he played about 45 minutes.”
And Dunkley? Could he return against Bournemouth?

Hide Ad“It’s possible he could be involved at some stage next week,” he said after the Preston game. “But whether that’ll be Tuesday - we’ll have to assess that…”
The Owls also have the likes of Moses Odubajo, Cameron Dawson and Dominic Iorfa out of action due to varying injuries, but there may well come a point this month when they find themselves almost at full strength.
Wednesday and Bournemouth lock horns at 7pm tonight, with the Owls looking to complete their first league double of the season after beating their opponents 1-0 thanks to Barry Bannan at Hillsborough back in November.
