Hide Ad“Massimo came back from his thigh injury, he started running and his knee flared up,” Thompson said. “He’s been for a scan, he’s been to see a surgeon and he’s looking at four, five or six weeks.
“It’s a massive blow. We are really disappointed. It is what it is. Injuries are part and parcel of what we do.”

Hide AdThompson passionately defended his side’s performance. He said: “It doesn’t matter how you play at this stage of the season, with the position we’re in, we have to win games. And we’re not doing that.
“They’re a good team and when you start pushing and pressing they can open you up, as a lot of teams have found in this division.
“We’ve got to be more ruthless at both ends of the pitch. No matter what goes on in the middle of the pitch, and I felt we were better than on Saturday, it’s there that it matters.”
Number one goalkeeper Keiren Westwood also missed the clash with a rib injury.
