'A beautiful send off': Family and friends gather for funeral of Meadowhall crash victim Josh Hydes

Josh Hydes, aged 20, died when the car he was driving ran out of control and ploughed through railings on Meadowhall Way before plummeting into the River Don below on Saturday, January 30.
His uncle Tommy Hydes, 24, also died in the crash.
When emergency services arrived at the crash scene the car – a white Mercedes GLS – was upside down and submerged in water.

Hide AdThe young men were released from the car and taken to the river bank for emergency first aid but could not be revived.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is under way.
Yesterday, Josh’s funeral was held at Babworth Crematorium, Retford, where mourners lined the route.
Due to Covid restrictions, many friends and work colleagues of the Sheffield University finance worker, who lived at Kiveton but grew up in Aston, watched the funeral service online.

Hide AdPosting on Facebook, friend Sheldon Bird said: “A beautiful send off for a beautiful soul.”
Family friend Mandy Royston added: “You’re going to be missed by so many Josh. You never realised how popular you are.”
Over £2,500 was raised in memory of Josh on an online fundraising page.
The money is to be spent on a plaque in Josh’s name, with the rest to be donated to charity.
