The 14 Sheffield areas where Covid infections are still rising despite lockdown

Coronavirus infections continue to increase in 14 areas across Sheffield, after the nation documented an all-time high of 1,820 virus deaths yesterday.

Latest Public Health England data from the seven days to January 15, has revealed more than a dozen neighbourhoods in Sheffield where virus cases are still on the rise – while overall, infection rates are decreasing in both the city and across the whole of South Yorkshire.

It comes after the UK recorded the highest number of daily Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Wednesday, January 20) when an additional 1,820 people were confirmed to have lost their lives within 28 days of a positive virus test.

This brings the UK’s total number of deaths from coronavirus up to 93,290 since the pandemic first hit last year.
