Sheffield Magistrates’ Court – sitting at the Sheffield Crown Court building – heard on April 8 how Kyle Batty, aged 25, of Holden Court, Race Street, Barnsley, pushed his partner to the floor at her Rotherham home and pinned her down by her arms.
Robert Coyne, prosecuting, said: “The couple have been in a relationship for a year and at the time of this offence the complainant was 18 weeks pregnant with his child.”

Batty ripped the complainant’s top during the assault and took her mobile phone, according to Mr Coyne.
The defendant pleaded guilty to assault and admitted damaging the complainant’s t-shirt and to stealing her mobile phone after the incident on December 19.
Yvonne Wragg, defending, said Batty suffered a mental breakdown after the loss of his mother when he was 19-years-old and at the time of these offences his father was in hospital with blood poisoning and has since died.

She believes the couple has separated.
District Judge Grace Leong sentenced Batty to a six-week community order with a six-week curfew running between 6pm to 7am.
He must pay a £90 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
