Here are some of South Yorkshire’s most shocking high-profile shooting and firearm cases to have been heard recently at Sheffield Crown Court.
Three murderers who were part of a drugs gang were put behind bars after a young Sheffield man was shot at least five times at a flat in a “planned and cold-blooded murder”.
The judges in many of these cases raised ever-growing concerns about the problems of gun crime across the region faced by Sheffield residents and South Yorkshire Police.
Dealer Asad Khalid, pictured, who was involved in selling class A drugs and guns across Sheffield, the Midlands and London has been sentenced to 18 years of custody.
Khalid, aged 29, of Coalbrook Avenue, Rotherham, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply class A drugs between March 26, 2020, and June 6, 2020, and to conspiracy to sell prohibited weapons between the same dates. He also admitted possessing a firearm, and admitted possessing ammunition. He was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on January 12, 2022, to 18 years of custody. Photo: SYP

Two murderers, Jack Parkes and Taylor Meanley, were given "life" custodial sentences after they left a young man dead in the street following a drive-by shooting. A Sheffield Crown Court trial heard how driver Parkes, gunman Meanley, and passengers Joe Anderton and Arlind Nika were in a stolen Jaguar car on Wath Road, Mexborough, in January 2021, with a shotgun when Lewis Williams was shot in the head and neck and died. A jury found Meanley, who fired the shotgun, and driver Parkes both guilty of murder and they found Nika and Anderton guilty of manslaughter. Meanley, aged 17, of Beech Crescent, Mexborough, Jack Parkes, aged 21, of Arnold Crescent, Mexborough, and Nika, aged 16, of Spelman Street, London, and Joe Anderton, aged 18, of Jubilee Road, Wheatley, Doncaster, were also found guilty of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. Judge Jeremy Richardson KC imposed life custodial sentences for Meanley and Parkes with minimum terms of 27 years, and Anderton and Nika were each sentenced to 12 years of detention.
