Police investigating the rape of a teenage girl in a Rotherham playing field have now made an arrest, following a CCTV appeal.

The girl was reportedly walking with a group of friends through Eastwood Playing Fields, off Eldon Road and Hardwicke Road, in the Eastwood area of Rotherham, when she was raped on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at around 9pm.

South Yorkshire Police issued a CCTV appeal earlier today (Saturday, July 8, 2023) asking for the public's help to identify a man in a CCTV image, who, they believed, may be able to assist the force with the enquiries.

A spokesperson for SYP confirmed a few moments ago that the force 'has now made an arrest,' in connection with the rape investigation.

"Thank you to everyone who shared our earlier CCTV appeal, it’s really appreciated," the spokesperson continued.

Anyone with information is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 1121 of July 6, 2023.
