Arbourthorne shooting: Everything known about gun attack which left Sheffield boy, 12, in hospital

- Emergency services were called to Errington Road, Arbourthorne, following reports of a shooting at 3.45pm yesterday.
- A 12-year-old boy was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg and remains in a stable condition today.

Hide Ad- The youngster was hit in a drive-by shooting after a gun was fired from a white car as it passed a group of adults and children on the street.
- The car left the scene in the direction of East Bank Road.
- No arrests have yet been made.
- A large police cordon was put in place after the shooting, with an area of land outside shops on Northern Avenue taped off and under police guard yesterday.
- The cordon has been lifted but police officers remain in Arbourthorne today carrying out house-to-house enquiries and looking for potential witnesses to the gun attack.

Hide Ad- Extra police patrols are also being carried to reassure members of the community of their safety.
- Detective Inspector Denise Booth, investigating the shooting, said officers are working ‘to piece together the exact circumstances of this incident, what led to it and to identify those responsible’.
- Detectives have not yet revealed the possible motive for the shooting.
- Members of the public are being urged to come forward to help detectives crack the case.

- The shooting was one of three in Sheffield in less than 48 hours.
- One Friday night shots were fired in Meersbrook at 10.55pm and five minutes later a gun was fired at the Kettle Black bar on Ecclesall Road.
- Residents have voiced their concern about gun crime in South Yorkshire so far this year. At least eight shootings have been reported over an eight-day period.
