PUPILS tackled reading with a rugby star at a Rotherham primary school as part of a literacy-boosting project.
Players from Rotherham Titans took time out from their training to work with youngsters at Trinity Croft Primary, Dalton Parva.

The players have been working with children aged between four and 11, listening to them read and acting as positive role models.

The Titans Community Foundation Reading Partner scheme was launched five years ago in Clifton and Thrybergh, areas identified as being among the most deprived in Rotherham.

This year the project has received a £10,000 boost from steel giant Corus.

The cash means the work is being spread out to other schools with the help of Corus employees who have been given time off work to take part.

Corus Rotherham site director Mark Broxholme said: "We're always looking for new ways in which we can have a positive impact on our local community.

"Reading is an essential life skill, and this scheme has helped thousands of young people who might otherwise have struggled in later life."

The Reading Partner scheme involves 15 schools in the Clifton and Thrybergh areas, with pupils enjoying 15 to 20-minute sessions on each visit.
