PUPILS and staff from a Sheffield school enjoyed the trip of a lifetime when they spent three weeks on a conservation expedition in the South American Amazon Rainforest.
The 22 students from All Saints RC High School on Granville Road spent a year raising cash to pay for their adventure in Peru.
They packed bags at supermarkets, organised school discos, held raffles and auctions, provided refreshments at parents' evenings, ran hotdog and sweet sales at school - and even threw wet sponges at their headteacher.
During the expedition, run in conjunction with Eco-Amazonia, the students worked with volunteers from other countries to monitor the health of the Rainforest and Amazon River to see if conservation policies put in place with the establishment of the Paco Samiria Nature Reserve were working.
Pastoral head Jayne Spaven, who organised the trip, said: "As well as proving to be a fabulous educational experience for the students concerned, much of the data collected will be used by future All Saints students.
The pupils, accompanied by Jayne and head of science Adrian May, hope to continue their fundraising efforts to support a local primary school they visited on the reserve.
