Meersbrook Bank Primary School give life to Terra Cotta Army

Pupils at Meersbrook Bank Primary School created their very own Terra Cotta Army as their special contribution to this year's Chinese themed Sheffield's Children's Festival and as part of the school's Arts Week.
Every child in the school produced their own unique warrior from a clever mixture of paper, foil and paint. Teaching staff had to use all their ingenuity with "sticky backed plastic" to make sure that the army of more than 200 figures all stood up straight.
The children also each made their own traditional Willow Pattern plates in distinct blue and white that made a frieze that stretched around the whole of the school. With parental support children also made kites, traditional Chinese paintbrushes and fans.
Year 6 Children made their own paper, helped by a school grandparent Freda Thompson.
Hilary Malden, Arts Co ordinator said:
"The children were fascinated by the concept of the Terra Cotta Warriors. Their determination to produce their own version was inspiring. They worked patiently and cooperatively, to produce models that would stand independently.
