KARATE chopping action marked the opening night of a fun family movie in Sheffield - and the launch of a city film festival.
Cineworld at Sheffield's Valley Centertainment hosted the joint premiere of Kung Fu Panda with Leicester Square Odeon in London.

The Sheffield Dragons Team Elite gave a martial arts display on the night which also marked the start of the 10th Showcomotion Young People's Film Festival.

The festival features a host of children's films that will be screened at the Showroom Cinema on Paternoster Row until July 10.

Kung Fu Panda opens nationally on July 4 but the special Sheffield screening was part of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts' Learning and Events programme.

Kam Kandola, BAFTA's events producer and regions programmer, said: "We are especially excited to have Kung Fu Panda as the opening film, on the very same night as the UK Premiere in London."

Valley Centertainment manager Mike Jeffries said they were delighted to welcome the festival and the Sheffield Dragons.
