A home in Broomhill is throwing its doors open to older people in Sheffield who don’t want to be alone for Christmas.
St James Smith House, on Marlborough Road, Broomhill, will be open to lonely older people from Christmas Eve to January 4.
It is offering free Christmas dinners and overnight stays.
The kind gesture is part of the Abbeyfield Houses ‘Coping at Christmas’ campaign, which was launched after the charity discovered there are 500,000 over 65s in the UK who spend Christmas Day on their own.
If you know anyone who would enjoy company and a meal, call 0845 052 3553 or contact St James Smith House manager Deborah Scott on 01142 662827.
Watch the video above to hear the story of 66-year-old Barbara, who lives on her own on the west side of Nottingham. After seeing an advert for Coping at Christmas she contacted the charity and was given the choice of several participating houses in her area for an overnight stay and Christmas lunch.
