IT’s all aboard for a family treat with a stage version of Swallows and Amazons at Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre this Easter - and we are celebrating with a really cool prize.
We have a family ticket, for two adults and two children, to the opening night on April 10, at 7pm.
And the prize also includes a family trip to produce your own ice cream to take away at the Our Cow Molly Farm, the Sheffield dairy which supplies Sheffield Theatres.
Swallows and Amazons will take audiences on an action-packed musical adventure at the Lyceum Theatre from Tuesday to Saturday, April 10 to 14.
A stage adaptation of the much-loved book by Arthur Ransome, it tells the story of the school holiday exploits of the Walker and Blackett children and their sailing boats – the Swallow and the Amazon.
As the crews set sail for Wildcat Island, they encounter savages, capture dastardly pirates and defeat mortal enemies.
A hugely imaginative production, Swallows and Amazons will enchant audiences of all ages as the characters bring to life the memories of an idyllic era of endless summer evenings and the joy of youth.
The play perfectly captures the fun of child’s play and the nostalgia of a bygone era that all generations can enjoy.
Helen Edmundson’s adaptation, directed by Tom Morris, director of West End hit War Horse, features songs written by Divine Comedy’s Irish front man Neil Hannon.
“Writing anything with music is always really different as you have to blend two things together. Tom, Neil and I worked really well together as a threesome,” says Edmundson.
“Swallows and Amazons is a feelgood, children’s show.
“I have written plays since primary school where I used to beg my teachers to let me put them on and at university I knew I wanted to do something in theatre.”
It is presented by the Childrens Touring Partnership whose recent production of Goodnight Mister Tom received much acclaim.
