PYGMALION – the George Bernard Shaw classic which was turned into hit musical My Fair Lady – is to be performed in Sheffield and we’ve got tickets to be won, writes Graham Walker.
The curtain goes up on a production by amateur theatre group The Company, at the University Drama Studio, Glossop Road, from January 16 to 19, 2013, at 7.30pm.
And to celebrate we have two pairs of tickets to be won.
It is the story of phonetics professor Henry Higgins, who makes a bet he can transform cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a lady.
With the help of friend Colonel Pickering, Higgins teaches her impeccable speech, but forgets Eliza’s manners can often give her away.
Written in 1912, Pygmalion was transformed into the 1964 classic film musical starring Audrey Hepburn.
My Fair Lady has been packing them in over the festive period at Sheffield’s Crucible theatre – but now you can see the real story behind Eliza and Higgins.
Watch out for Julia Armstrong’s preview in The Star this week.
