WOODSEATS Musical Theatre Company went straight to the top when they needed advice on their next production.
The Sheffield amateur theatre team are presenting Cole Porter classic Kiss Me Kate at Dronfield Civic Hall from June 19 to 22.
And when a critically acclaimed professional revival was running in London’s West End, director Mary Newey decided to pick up some tips.
Mary and her own stars headed for the capital to see a performance - and then meet professional leads Alex Bourne, Hannah Waddingham and Crucible Theatre favourite Clive Rowe.
“It was a fantastic opportunity for my cast to get a full flavour of what this great musical is all about,” said Mary.
“We were really delighted when the stars agreed to meet us after the performance and give us some tips on how to handle those great Cole Porter numbers.”
Kiss Me Kate is one of the Broadway musical classics, combining the story of a warring stage star couple with scenes from their troubled musical production of Shakespeare’s marital comedy The Taming of the Shrew.
In one of Porter’s greatest scores, a stream of classic numbers includes Too Darn Hot, Always True to You Darling In My Fashion, So In Love and Another Opening, Another Show.
