Staff at Sheffield Theatres have praised actress Lynda Bellingham for her ‘extraordinary courage’ after she announced she only has months to live.

The 66-year-old had been due to appear in new play A Passionate Woman at the Lyceum last September, but the production was cancelled after she was diagnosed with cancer.

Bellingham, best known for her role as a mum in the Oxo TV adverts, announced this weekend she is stopping her chemotherapy treatment for colon cancer and hopes to spend a final Christmas with her family.

A Sheffield Theatres spokesman said: “Lynda is showing extraordinary courage and our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family at this difficult time.”
