Sheffield comedian Ricky K who shot to fame on Britain’s Got Talent has landed a role in panto.
The 33-year-old, from Mosborough, who reached the live semi-finals of the television talent show, is set to appear in Rotherham Civic’s pantomime Aladdin.
Ricky, real name Richard Calow, had impressed in his audition to win the semi-final spot - but failed to repeat the trick in front of a live TV audience.
But he is not letting that get him down, and is looking forward to playing Aladdin in December.
“The experience I had on Britain’s Got Talent was great, I loved it and the public support was fantastic,” he said.
“I am very grateful I got the chance to perform. I never thought I’d get past the audition stage, never mind through to the live shows.
“But on Britain’s Got Talent I didn’t get to show everything I do. They wanted me to do more of the comedy mime stuff, which is great but that is only a small portion of what I do.
“I’m an all rounder - I sing, dance, act, do stand up - and I’ll get to do all that in panto. I’ve done panto every year for a long time. I love it. That time of year in fantastic.”
Ricky has performed in Aladdin before, but this is the first time he has taken on the lead role or performed at the Civic Theatre.
He said: “I’ve heard lots of good things about the theatre. I know it has got a big support base in Rotherham.
“This panto is a completely new production by Shone Productions. It’s going to be really, really good.”
The pantomime runs from December 3 this year until January 11, 2015, at Rotherham Civic Theatre, with ticket prices starting from £11.
The pantomime performances during Christmas week, and key weekend dates, always sell out very fast, so audiences are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
