Raising the roof for the Lantern

Have your say

Things may be looking up for Sheffield’s Lantern Theatre thanks to a group of students who have set up a show to help with roof repairs.

The cosy community venue, on Kenwood Park Road, Nether Edge hosts many plays, comedy acts, music and other cultural events as well as private celebrations and corporate conferences but recently our wonky weather and sheer wear and tear through the years have led to the possibility of leaks inside and other damage to the top of the building, writes John Quinn.

Which is where students at the city’s music technology/ICT/business and administration college Red Tape Central have stepped in, by organising a fundraiser taking place on Wednesday June 11 and aptly entitled Raise The Roof.

One of the tutors there is violinist and vocalist Matt Howden, who has played at the theatre under several guises over the last few years. On this occasion Matt will be taking to the stage under his best-known long-standing solo moniker Sieben.

Headlining the event will be folk types Captives On The Carousel.

Tickets, priced £6 or £3 with concessions, available from the reception area at Red Tape, 50 Shoreham Street.
