New York transfer for play about bullying

Sheffield Theatres’ production of Mike Bartlett’s new play Bull, staged in the Crucible Studio in February, will transfer to the 59E59 Theaters in New York, as part of the Brits Off Broadway Festival next month.

The production, due to run at the theatre from Monday April 22 to Sunday June 2, will star original cast members Adam James, Eleanor Matsuura and Sam Troughton, with director Clare Lizzimore at the helm.Mike Bartlett’s razor-sharp play follows the story of three office work colleagues applying for two jobs and explores the issue of bullying in the workplace in a slick 50 minutes.

Theatres chief executive Dan Bates said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that Bull has been invited to the Brits Off Broadway Festival in New York and it’s a fantastic achievement for Sheffield Theatres.

“We were really pleased with the production when we staged it in our Studio theatre and were delighted with the audience reactions to the staging.

“It’s a huge honour to have our work recognised on the international stage with this invitation.

“Alongside our recent award of Regional Theatre of the Year, it really cements our reputation as one of the leading producing theatres in the United Kingdom.”
