Midsummer at the Winter Garden

Have your say

The Winter Garden in Sheffield is turned into a bewitched woodland glade when it becomes the backdrop for Benjamin Britten’s operatic version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

The idea came from Gareth Lloyd, who is the joint producer, when he performed a flashmob in the Winter Garden last summer.

Gareth and co-producer Kathryn Gasic, both graduates of the University of Sheffield, have assembled a cast of young city-based singers, many also former students.

Among better-known names are Chloe Saywell (Tytania), Andrea Tweedale (Helena) and Matthew Palmer (Demetrius).

The show is part of A Boy Was Born, a year-long festival organised by the University of Sheffield to celebrate the centenary of the composer.
