The old Woolworth’s store has been turned into a temporary performance space by Theatre Delicatessen, where all manner of spooky goings-on take place.
A group of young actors have set up a scary market. Audience members tour the performances and take part in what’s going on.
Then they pay what it was worth.
The performers are Claire Potter, Hidden Track, Forest Sounds Theatre, Frolicked, Laura Murphy, Punkture, Rationale, Rebecca Caputo and Tara Baker.
One of the best shows I visited was one-to-one scary story. You are blindfolded and put in an old meat safe in the pitch black!
After a few minutes of the story you can switch on a torch and investigate what’s in front of you…
The scariness is mainly down to your own imagination.
Did You Call the Police? is also set in the dark.
Areas light up, showing fleeting seconds of action.
It’s looking at the Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal and the issue of racism and is very thought-provoking and clever.
Another highlight is the gleefully daft Happy Meadows clinic. Severed heads talk in the waiting room and an audience member is interrogated by a doctor.
Don’t leave without doing some detective work, racing around for clues to a series of rat murders.
The souk closes on November 22.
