THERE’S a Wheel chance to put your mirth on the road to the big time on August 18 when the Crooked Smile Comedy Award 2011 takes place in Chesterfield.

Dominic Elliot-Spencer and Matt Turner were previous winners and last year’s judges were so impressed with local beginners Micky Burns and Wayne Boston they created a special Best Local Talent prize.

This time nine fresh performers compete for the trophy, a cash prize and a contract of paid gigs alongside a headline set from John Warburton, erstwhile tabloid journalist who combines one-liners, acute observational comedy and cleaver-sharp songs. Get your entries of a CD/DVD/cassette containing five minutes of material marked ‘Crooked Smile’ to The Winding Wheel, Holywell Street, S41 7SA, by close today. Show tickets cost £7.
