Good to Firm, Pomegranate Theatre, Chesterfield - June 20-22
Emmerdale star Ian Sharrock, who played Jackie Merrick in the long-running Yorkshire soap, stars in this play in Chesterfield this week.
Ian first appeared in Emmerdale in 1972 and was a regular from 1980 to 1989. He played the son of Jack Sugden who was put in a coma when he was run over by Alan Turner. He later got married but was killed off in a hunting accident.
In Good to Firm he plays hopeless gambler Bob Fletcher, who finds his life turned upside down when his first love returns to town during Grand National weekend.
He can’t help comparing the wealthy, beautiful Philippa with Shirley, his long-suffering wife of nearly 30 years.
As long-held secrets are revealed, can Bob resist the lure of the first woman he ever loved?
Production company Talking Scarlet make one of their regular visits to Chesterfield with this fast-moving comedy about headaches, heartaches and horse-racing, written by North East-based writers Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood.
Good To Firm was first performed at the Customs House, South Shields in June 2002.
Due to public demand it returned again in September 2003 and reappeared for the third time in September 2010 as part of the theatre’s 15th anniversary celebrations.
The play does contain a minimal amount of swearing that is in context with the play.
Good to Firm is at the Pomegranate from tomorrow, Thursday June 20, to Saturday.
