WITH venues such as Slaughterhouse and Fruit Market on his tour schedule, funny fellow Jimeoin might well be relieved to land at Sheffield’s normal-sounding Memorial Hall on May 20.
Previously a Grin Up North hit with his self-deprecatory tone and clever silly, the well-travelled comic upped his profile no end when he appeared on December’s Royal Variety Show and BBC’s Live At The Apollo.
Hence this extension to a UK tour by a man branded “not so much stand-up comedian, more stand-up David Attenborough” because of his inspired smartness.
Jimeoin quit his Northern Irish hometown of Portstewart for Australia more than a decade ago and swiftly found ample appetite for his take on the absurdities of everyday life, not least by introducing the concept of the Speed of Cheese – the more useful and alternative measurement to the Speed of Light.
And having wowed the Aussies, he’s gradually selling himself back to the rest of the globe, releasing several top-selling CDs and DVDs and finding UK allies in Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Jason Manford’s Comedy Rocks, Best Of Just For Laughs and Best of Edinburgh Comedy Festival.
