WITH its first professional season romping along nicely, Sheffield’s Lantern Theatre begins its first regular comedy night this month.
The Tickled Rib Comedy Club begins on April 21 with international comedian and star of BBC’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks and The Stand Up Show Junior Simpson.
And among the highlight names heading for Nether Edge are former Big Breakfast presenter and Neighbours star Mark Little.
Other artists include star of Austrailian TV’s The Comedy Channel Sully O’Sullivan and Canadian physical comedian Wes Zaharuk.
They are among the preview shows by some of the country’s top laughter merchants before they transfer to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The Tickled Rib has been organised by Lantern Theatre chief executive Matt Risby and Simon Gunnell, who runs Abbcom comedy nights at Abbeydale Cinema.
“The unique setting of the Lantern will make this really special,” says Matt.
Simon Gunnell added: “We aim to provide a venue where audiences can appreciate stand-up comedy in intimate, friendly surroundings.”
Shows dates to look out for are: Brian Damage and Krystal (May 19), Sully O’Sullivan (June 30), Wes Zaharuk (July 28), Anthony J Brown (August 18).
Also catch Edinburgh Fringe previews Steve Shanyaski and Toby Hadoke (July 5), Carey Marx and Lucy Porter (July 12) and former Big Breakfast host and Neighbours star Mark Little (July 19).
