Wuthering Heights,
Wentworth Castle Gardens

Tomorrow Chapterhouse open-air theatre specialists are to present a new adaptation of Brontë’s unyielding story of love and obsession on the lonely Yorkshire moors.

Can Catherine and Heathcliff’s everlasting love bring happiness or will the very forces of nature and the moors tear them apart?

The production has been dapted from Emily Brontë’s novel by Laura Turner and is directed by Rebecca Gadsby.

Chapterhouse have established a tradition in period plays with popular performances of Austen and Gaskell adaptations.

This year they will be showcasing their first venture into the slightly grittier world of the Brontës.

Laura Turner said: “When Chapterhouse asked me to write an adaptation of Wuthering Heights for this season I was really thrilled because I first read the novel when I was 14 and had a really strong reaction. It’s a bit like Marmite, people either love it or hate it, and I fell in love.

“It’s a challenging story to adapt, spanning two generations, but I hope that I have managed to instill the passion and wildness of Emily Brontë’s masterpiece and that people fall for Catherine and Heathcliff just as I have.”

Director Rebecca added: “It’s gritty, captivating and all the drama happens on stage. Your heart will be in your mouth for two hours!

“Jane Austen is my love and passion, but having some dark melodrama to work on is inspiring and very exciting.”

The show takes place at 6.30pm tomorrow.
