Romeo and Juliet, Botanical Gardens
Heartbreak Productions are back in Sheffield this week on one of their regular visits to the beautiful city gardens.
Shakespeare’s classic love story is first up this summer.
It seems to be a big favourite for outdoor productions – it’s been done in recent years in the Peace Gardens and South Street amphitheatre above the Midland station, as well as in Wentworth Castle Gardens.
Heartbreak promise: “Thrills and dynamism, masks, dance, blades, potions and poetry – Heartbreak’s inimitable storytelling style infuses a modern twist but maintains all the intensity of this legendary tale, creating a unique and compelling performance to move and engage audiences as they watch this riveting romance played out under sultry Italian skies.”
Fingers crossed that Sheffield’s skies are sultry too, although the show will almost certainly go on regardless.
The cast will be joined at the performances by Sheffield group Ink Dance and either Sheffield’s Drummers United or Barnsley band Frum Tarm.
Romeo and Juliet runs from this Thursday (June 20) to Sunday, with both afternoon and evening performances at the weekend.
Heartbreak are back at the gardens again in August with two contrasting shows based on classic books.
They are Alice – an Extraordinary Adventure and a version of Dracula.
