A tea party has been organised for socially isolated and elderly residents in Barnsley.
Kathy Markwick, a member of the Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club, felt compelled to organise a social event for lonely adults in the borough after starting a new job with an independent care firm.
Through her role with Home Instead Senior Care, which provides care to vulnerable adults in their own homes, Kathy said she came to realise the numbers of lonely people, especially OAPs, in the area who report feeling isolated.
The free tea party, which is being sponsored by Barnsley, Stainborough and Barnsley Rockley Rotary Clubs, will take place from 3pm to 5pm on September 23 at The Holiday Inn, Barnsley.
There will be sweet and savoury treats plus entertainment from singer Russ Elliott.
Kathy is asking anyone who knows a person who is lonely or socially isolated to either bring them along or let them know about the event.
She said: “I hope this will be the first of many events to help get lonely elderly residents out of their homes and mixing with others.”
