A new life saving poster will be displayed around Doncaster’s swimming pool sites after keen swimmer Nicolas Bell won a special competition to design it.

Primary school children who attend swimming lessons at St James Leisure Centre, which is part of Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust’s 12 venues, have been learning about the Heat Escape Lessening Position (HELP) which reduces heat loss in cold water.

The Trust ran a competition across 13 primary schools to design a poster about HELP and 10-year-old Nicolas, a pupil at Balby Central Primary School, was the winner.

Jon Whiteley, head of leisure at DCLT, said: “All the school children used their creativity and artistic skills well to show what they had learned, which will be especially helpful in the summer holidays.

“Nicolas’s fantastic design will now be displayed around all our venues and his school will receive school reward vouchers.”
