What gets you reaching for your purse? We want to know! Anne Batty runs a virtual secretarial business - and has a secret weapon for shopping the time-efficient way...
Sheffield single mum Anne Batty is the organised sort - she’s the founder of Paperclip Admin who provides administrative support and telephone answering services to small businesses all over Yorkshire and Derbyshire from her base in Dronfield.
And when it comes to shopping, she’s got the perfect solution - shopaholic friends who act as her P.A. “I just tell them what I’m looking for and they know exactly where to find it and at a good price,” says Anne.
1. Family cinema ticket, £29.20, Cineworld
Monsters Inc has long been an all-time favourite film for all the family, so when Monster University came out at the cinema, it was a must see for us! This time we took along a family friend who had never seen a 3D film before. We have a stash of 3D glasses at home - enough for us all, plus friends, so off we went to Cineworld. It was a great fun film.
2. Bowers & Wilkins wireless speaker, £399, John Lewis
We like having music on in our house, whatever room we are in. But there’s a distinct shortage of sockets in the kitchen so plugging in our radios and stuff is difficult. This wireless speaker was an ideal purchase for the family. It’s a great piece of equipment; it will link up with any MP3 player, meaning you can listen to your own playlists and radio stations.
3. School uniform, Tesco and Matalan
Already? I hear you say. Yes, I was determined to be Organised Mum and buy all the kids’ school uniform early. As the discussions with friends get more frantic as the new term nears, I will be the irritating one saying; “got it all sorted ages ago”. I shopped around for bargains. My best buys are boys’ shirts from Tesco and girls’ blouses from Matalan - both at two for £5.
Telephone headphones, £29.99, Lucem Direct Ltd
At Paperclip Admin we now have an additional team member, making the numbers up to five. We needed some reliable sets of headphones to be able to carry out our jobs properly. They are really useful, for example, when a client likes to dictate reports over the phone after his meetings. We sourced some great sets from an e-seller and they are a great addition to our office.
