NORTH, south, or if your name is West - when it comes to buying a present Sheffield is best.

That’s precisely what TV star Dominic West demonstrated on a visit to his home city.

Dominic, best known for his role as heavy-drinking Detective Jimmy McNulty in the hard-hitting HBO drama series The Wire, took time out of his busy schedule to spend the weekend in the Peak District.

And while he was there he decided to pop into Sheffield, to HL Brown jewellers in Barker’s Pool, where he treated his niece and god-daughter Eleanor to a pendant designed by Sheffield Hallam University graduate Stefan Tooke to commemorate the company’s 150th anniversary.

Sheffield-born Dominic, aged 41, educated at Eton but brought up in the Hope Valley, is currently filming for a TV role - and he won’t even have to change his name.

He’s set to star in an ITV drama which tells the tale of serial killer Fred West.
