Two South Yorkshire village community groups will stay warm and dry thanks to a financial windfall from a local green energy provider.
Funding for Harthill Morris Men and the Harthill Cricket Club on the outskirts of Rotherham has been donated by REG Windpower from the Loscar Wind Farm Community Fund.
The morris men will spend their cash on warmer uniforms to keep them dancing over the winter months, including fleeces, sweat shirts and bowler hats enabling them to perform at care homes, pubs, dance events and community festivals.
The cricketers have received funds to provide a large outdoor shelter and two smaller shelters for visitors to the ground, allowing spectators to watch matches without being exposed to the winds and weather.
Joanna Dawson from the cricket club said: “We are thrilled to receive this investment from the community fund. This funding will make a difference to everyone in our club, and we hope it will encourage the community to attend games when the weather is cooler and the wind is up.”
REG Windpower will donate £170,000 over the wind farm’s lifetime.
