CUBAN music fans are in for a tasty treat when Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club return to Sheffield City Hall on Saturday, March 19.

The Star has teamed up with the venue for one lucky reader to win a pair of tickets and a meal for two at Cubana - the city’s acclaimed South American restaurant.

Buena Vista Social Club, direct from Havana, released its only studio album, produced by Ry Cooder, in 1997 and achieved instant success.

The album, featuring a specially assembled group of veteran Cuban musicians, was further propelled by Wim Wenders’ acclaimed film and later by a series of international tours and albums. As a result, Buena Vista Social Club became a phenomenon.

At the forefront of the group are four musicians who will be recognized from the Buena Vista Social Club film - trumpeter Guajiro Mirabal, laúd virtuoso Barbarito Torres, trombonist Jesus “Aguaje” Ramos and guitarist/keyboardist Manuel Galbán.

A younger generation of Cuban musicians is represented by such talents as the renowned vocalist Carlos Calunga and virtuoso pianist Rolando Luna. Other top musicians have helped to form an expanded 13 piece line up.

Cubana, in Trippet Lane, is famed nationally for original tapas recipes. The extensive menu combines classic Spanish style dishes with South American flare and flavour.

Since opening in 2000, this lively tapas restaurant has continued to draw the crowds, with its Havana style party atmosphere and live Latin musicians on Mondays and Tuesday.

Tickets to see Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club are £27.50 and £32.50, may be subject to a booking fee. Call in person at the venue Box Office, phone 0114 2789 789 or visit www.sheffieldcityhall.co.uk
