BLUSHING brides and their husbands-to-be will today get the chance of a sneak preview of what they can expect of new wedding facilities at Rotherham Town Hall where the first ceremonies are in November.
Mayor of Rotherham, Coun Shaun Wright, is hosting the open day today, which will include scheduled tours, children’s activities and the chance to join the Mayor and Mayoress for morning coffee or afternoon tea.
As a special addition this year, people will have the first chance to see how the Town Hall’s Garden Room will look for weddings as the building is now licensed for ceremonies to be held.
The first are booked in for next week.
The open day is from 10am until 4pm with scheduled tours being held every hour on the hour.
Morning coffee with the Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham, Coun Shaun Wright and Lisa Wright, will be held in the Mayor’s Parlour at 10am .
There will be afternoon tea with the couple at 3pm.
There will also be the chance to watch a DVD of the Mayoral inauguration ceremony in the main Council Chamber on the first floor.
For children on their half-term, entertainer Sparky Mark is hosting two sessions of activities at 10.30am and 2pm and there will be a competition with a Hallowe’en theme.
A town cryer will also be out and about in the town centre letting people know all about the event.
Weddings are currently held in the John Smith’s Room at the Town Hall and at Bailey House, Rawmarsh Road. The last wedding at Bailey House will be on Friday this week.
The registrar’s offices, in Bailey House, are moving to the Town Hall.
