A NORTH Derbyshire primary school is planning to install a 12 metre wind turbine with the help of a £23,000 grant from EDF Energy.
The turbine will be put up at Bishop Pursglove Primary School in Tideswell.
The school has a long-term commitment to environmental issues, achieving the top Eco-Schools award four times.
The wind turbine could produce around a third of the school's electricity needs.
Jayne Denby, senior teacher, said: "We're delighted that the EDF Energy Green Fund is to help make this exciting project a reality.
"The 23,000 will go a huge way to helping us create this low carbon solution.
"We want to become more sustainable and this renewable project will help us as a school do just that."
