Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium has been shortlisted for a top international award at the 2011 Stadium Business Awards.

The event, on Wednesday June 15, at the famous Nou Camp Stadium in Barcelona, will see representatives from across the globe find out who walks away with this year’s accolades.

More than 1,000 nominations were submitted, spanning 20 categories. The shortlisted entries showcase the international expertise of stadiums, arenas and major sports venues from around the world.

The Doncaster venue is shortlisted for the community award for its work in ensuring town residents are involved with the venue as much as possible and creating community events. It is up against Everton in the Community, York Racecourse and Cardiff City FC.

Shane Chalmers, chief executive of the Stadium Management Company said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award because it has put Doncaster on the map.

“The awards have attracted attention from right across the world and there are some very big players in the shortlist.

“Since opening in 2007, the stadium has gone from strength to strength. One aspect that has remained strong throughout this time, is the relationship with the local community as we continue to welcome thousands of local residents through our doors every week.”
