A SPECIAL Christmas train organised by the Penistone Line Partnership, which ferried 130 passengers to York, raised more than £2,000 for charity along the way.
The decorated train stopped at all stations between Huddersfield and Barnsley before continuing to York where passengers spent time in the city while the train waited for them before returning four hours later.
Money was raised through collections, a raffle and refreshments. Children were treated to gifts from Santa and adults were given sherry and a mince pie as they boarded the train.
The money will be split between the Penistone Line Partnership who will use it to fund future excursions and improvements to local train stations, and Huddersfield charity The Joseph Salmon Trust.
