DOWNTON Abbey star Thomas Howes has given his celebrity support to Doncaster Amateur Operatic Society - by wishing ‘break a leg’ to the cast of its latest production, Hot Mikado.

Doncaster-born Thomas, who plays William in the hit television drama, took time out for a picture with the Three Little Maids.

And he sent the cast a good luck card which read: “To the cast of the Hot Mikado, Break a leg and have a fabulous time!”

Thomas very nearly played the romantic lead in Hot Mikado, which will be on the Doncaster Civic Theatre stage from Wednesday to Saturday, when the society was short of a leading man. But he was unable to proceed due to TV commitments.

Hot Mikado is a toe-tapping musical comedy based on Gilbert and Sullivan’s hit The Mikado, and still features old favourites like I’ve Got a Little List.

Tickets cost between £10 and £12 and are still available by calling 01302 342 349.
