A SHEFFIELD dance student will swap his ballet shoes for hiking boots as he prepares to take on Africa’s tallest mountain for charity.
Tariq Ahmed will climb 19,300ft up Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s highest free-standing mountain.
The 21-year-old, of Shiregreen, decided to take up the trek as a new challenge.
“I’ve just graduated from university and I’ve never done anything like this before,” he said. “Now I’m climbing every mountain in England to help with training for the big one.”
He hopes to raise £3,500 for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and so far has raised 40 per cent of his target.
“I’m holding fundraising events in the run-up to my climb and I have a singalong planned in Sheffield city centre on Saturday, July 7, from 11am to 3pm,” he added.
