A CREATIVE writing contest which has been running for 30 years is taking place again this year.

The Rotherham Arts Mike Haywood Competition is open to anyone who lives within 35 miles of the town.

There are two categories - poems, which must be no longer than 40 lines, and short stories of 1,800 to 2,000 words.

Winners in each category will receive a prize of £75, and two runners-up will receive £50 each.

Entries must be received by competition organisers by November 1, 2011, accompanied by the appropriate entry fee, which is £2 for each story or poem, or three entries for £3.

People can enter up to three stories or poems per person.

Entry forms are available by writing to organiser Graham Rippon, at 19 Godric Drive, Brinsworth, Rotherham, S60 5AN.

Entrants can also email grippon1@tiscali.co.uk for a form or information.
