Sword dancers’ annual ‘traipse’

Have your say

THE annual ‘traipse’ by the Grenoside Sword Dancers of Sheffield is on Saturday.

The team has been in existence for at least 150 years, and in times past at this time of year they would embark on long walking tours of the local district, where they would perform at houses of the local gentry to supplement their incomes, as there was little work during the winter months.

The modern ‘traipse’ – starting at 10.45am from High Green Miners’ Welfare Hall and heading through Grenoside with performances throughout the day – is a nod to those walking tours of old.

The team will also perform at High Green Miners’ Welfare Hall, where a coffee morning runs from 10am, run by High Green in Bloom, Angram Christian Fellowship, Heritage High Green, and High Green Primary School.
