Forestry Commission rangers are offering survival tips by staging bushcraft days in Bentley and Brodsworth Community Woods next month.
Children will get the chance to make a den from brush and branches, learn safe fire-lighting techniques, and enjoy lunch cooked over a blazing campfire.
Ranger Emily Holmes said: “The forest may seem a bit forbidding, but nothing could be further from the truth. To the skilled eye, it offers all you need to keep warm, dry and well-nourished.
“Bushcraft events have become incredibly popular. They teach skills and nurture respect for nature.”
The events on August 6 and 13 run from 10am to 2pm and are suitable for children aged over eight. Call 01302 820 278 to book a £5 place.
