IT was a glamorous night of sparkling entertainment as the last live show of the Strictly Come Dancing tour came to Sheffield Arena - but Michael Vaughan was stumped by the judges.

His samba failed to impress the panel and although the former England captain’s American Smooth was more of a hit, he finished second from bottom of the pile - just above fellow cricketer Phil Tufnell.

Vaughan, partnered by Natalie Lowe told the crowd he had honed his dancing skills while at the Leadmill nightclub.

And he could not compete with the spectacular acrobatics of champion Louis Smith, who finished top on the night.

The silver medal-winning Olympic gymnast delighted the audience with a version of the Dirty Dancing routine, culminating partner Ola Jordan being carried through the air.

There was the trademark dollop of innuendo from the judges. Craig Revel Horwood was on form with panto-villain sarcasm, while Len Goodman compared dance routines suggestively with different types of food and Bruno whipped his top off. But there were tears from contestant Fern Britton, who pulled off a stunning ballroom dance, because she was missing her daughter’s birthday.
