A Barnsley community sports club has been awarded cash to upgrade old football pitches with a state-of-the-art 3G playing surface.
The 5ives community sports club in Kendray was successful in securing cash from Sport England’s ‘inspired facilities’ fund.
It also secured cash from Wren, which awards grants for community, biodiversity and heritage projects from landfill tax payments.
The sports centre is used by teams ranging from under sevens to adults.
Facility Manager, Michael Redhead, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade the quality of our pitches to make us the best facility in the area.
“This will provide many local football teams and recreational football players the opportunity to play on the newest 3G surface available.”
It is hoped the football pitches will be available to use from the beginning of next month.
A community fun day is also planned for next month with bouncy castles, free football coaching for children, zorb bubble football and an adults football league.
Bookings for the centre are now being taken.
