ELEVEN-year-old judo ace Daniel Jeffries proved he has ability beyond his years when he triumphed at the British Championships - in the Under-16s age group!
Daniel travelled to the Championships believing he would be competing in his own Under-12s group, only to find he would be up against 14 and 15 year olds.
“When I realised, I thought I was definitely going to lose,” said Daniel, who fights in the under-50kg category.
“It was really good to win though, I couldn’t believe it. I thought I had come second and then I realised I’d won!”
Daniel’s dad Chris said: “He fought out of his skin against the older lads.
“We didn’t think he had a chance but he showed wonderful skill to win. He has worked extremely hard for this, having travelled to Nottingham twice a week for training during the last three months, as well as attending the Rotherham Tigers Judo Club.”
Daniel’s victory in Swindon means he now qualifies for selection in the British Under-16s squad, and the Swallownest youngster is excited about the possibility of selection. He said: “It would be great to be make the British squad.”
