A CHARITY which supports soldiers who have fallen on hard times or suffered life-changing injuries is to receive £18,839.73 raised by Territorial Army members.

Troops from 73 Engineer Regiment, which includes Chesterfield-based 575 Field Squadron, pedalled on exercise bikes the equivalent distance from the UK to Afghanistan, in aid of the Army benevolent fund.

Soldiers carried out the challenge at locations including Meadowhall and Tesco stores on Archer Drive, Millhouses, and Chesterfield.

Organiser Warrant Officer 2 Steve Marsh, who himself pedalled 702km, said: “We raised nearly four times the amount predicted.”
