THIS dazzling image of the Peak District in the evening sun has won photographer Simon Bull a national prize.

The photograph, Last Rays of Daylight, was captured by Simon below Stanage Edge at the end of a crisp, bright day.

It shows millstone landmarks, used as symbols for the Peak District National Park, illuminated from behind by the setting sun.

Former primary school teacher Simon, from Hathersage, said he was ‘delighted and honoured’ with the award.

“The image was taken below Stanage Edge and within walking distance of my front door, so I frequently find myself up on Stanage in all weathers and through the seasons of the year,” he said. His picture was the monthly winner of the Inspire Me photography competition run by outdoor brand Hi-Tec.

His prize was a pair of hiking boots and entry into an overall draw to find a winner of the year, who, in April, will be awarded a family hiking holiday worth more than £1,000.
