LAST December, most of Sheffield Harmony’s band of new recruits had never sang in the unique barbershop quartet style of the group.

Flash forward six months and the band of talented ladies are taking the UK scene by storm.

The singers, aged from 10 to late 70s, scooped fourth in the national Sweet Adeline’s women’s barbershop singing convention at Birmingham Symphony Hall.

Their place was five up from previous years, which the choir’s musical director put down to a recruitment drive at the end of 2011.

President Sue Finnigan said: “What a fabulous group of women and a fabulous musical director.”
